The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine ordered additional 35-mm ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft gun from the German arms concern Rheinmetall.
This is stated in the message of the concern dated January 6.
The new order includes 180,000 HEI-T (high explosive tracer charge) munitions and was booked in December 2024.
The order is financed by Germany. Its value is traditionally not mentioned, indicating that it is a two-digit number in millions of euros.
Ordered munitions can be used to effectively combat various aerial targets, such as drones. They will be produced at the Rheinmetall plant in Unterluss. Due to the increased demand for 35 mm ammunition, the production line at this enterprise was reconstructed at considerable cost and in a very short time frame in the spring of 2023.
To date, the Federal Republic of Germany has transferred a total of 55 Gepard anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine, which were decommissioned by the Bundeswehr. There they proved their value in air defense for more than two years.
In addition, in December, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine concluded a contract with Rheinmetall for the supply of 155-mm artillery rocket charges.
Earlier we wrote that Ukraine started ordering ammunition directly from the Rheinmetall company.
