Atlantic Council think tank (The Atlantic Council) in Washington published a list of “eight big ideas” for the incoming administration of Donald Trump, among which are proposals for the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Council experts, in particular, refer to Trump’s promise “to shake up the US government and the world for the sake of achieving American interests.” They offer an option that they believe could help Trump win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Thus, the US ambassador to Ukraine and Atlantic Council analyst John Herbst believes that the new president should continue providing Ukraine with assistance from the United States for “quick and successful negotiations”.

“It can be a loan, but it must include modern weapons — of course, the Army’s longer-range tactical missile systems (ATACMS) and F-16 fighters, but maybe more,” Herbst said.
Experts also suggest that Trump “intends to reverse ill-conceived measures taken by the administration of President Joe Biden to limit oil and gas production in the United States.” This should reduce world prices for oil and gas and reduce Russia’s income from the sale of hydrocarbons.
In addition, analysts believe that the Trump team may increase the pressure on the Kremlin by introducing additional sanctions, in addition to those that the Biden administration imposed on Russia last week. It must also surpass its predecessors by convincing the partners of the “Big Seven” (G7) agree to the transfer of all frozen Russian state assets to Ukraine.
Other ideas for Donald Trump from the Atlantic Council include:
- “iron dome for America”;
- leadership in 5G;
- the future of the dollar;
- US Volunteer Business Corps;
- “president of strategic sustainability”;
- creation of a competitive defense economy;
- strengthening of the maritime sector.
On January 16, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump has the opportunity to help Ukraine negotiate a strong ceasefire agreement with Russia.
On January 9, during a speech at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin wants to meet with him and that negotiations have already begun. Trump also said that after the inauguration he was going to “very soon” to meet with Putin.

On January 15, the Reuters agency, citing Trump’s advisers, reported that his promises to end the war in 24 hours were “a combination of loud pre-election statements with insufficient understanding of the intractability of the conflict and the time needed to form a new administration.” According to advisers, the settlement could take months or more.
On January 16, the Bloomberg agency wrote that Trump’s advisers are developing a large-scale sanctions strategy that should contribute to reaching a diplomatic agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the coming months.
