Kostadinov stated that “Bulgarians constitute the majority of the population of Southern Bessarabia (the southern part of Odesa region)”, and therefore allegedly “there is nothing more logical than returning the region back to Bulgaria.”
“Ukraine is falling apart, and at the upcoming peace congress, which will decide the fate of the so-called Ukrainian statehood, which did not take place, Bulgaria should declare its claims on Bulgarian Bessarabia,” added the scandalous politician.
In response, the Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria called on the Bulgarian leadership to condemn the statements of Kostadinov, who incites the destruction of the norms of international law, distorts historical facts and encourages the redistribution of borders in Europe.
“The statements of the leader of the “Renaissance” party regarding territorial encroachments on Ukraine are unacceptable for a politician of an EU member state, and confirm his systematic promotion of the Kremlin’s narratives,” the diplomatic mission noted.
Earlier in Bulgaria, the largest pro-Russian party “Renaissance” called on the country to leave the European Union and become a member of BRICS. Russia has a leading influence in this organization.
