Ukrainians should prepare for the traditional December surge in prices for basic food products, which intensifies on the eve of the New Year holidays and against the background of war risks.
The most noticeable growth is expected in the “social” basket — from eggs and apples to meat, milk and bread.
Experts emphasize that products are becoming more expensive than the general level of inflation, so the burden on family budgets will only increase.
According to experts, the prices of most citrus fruits and popular fruits will not change, but apples will become significantly more expensive.
Their cost may increase by almost one and a half times from the current level and approach UAH 60-70 per kilogram, which will make this familiar fruit less accessible to some consumers.
At the same time, consumers will see updated price tags for other seasonal items in stores, primarily due to higher prices for storage and logistics.
Eggs traditionally become more expensive in winter, and this season will be no exception. Due to a decrease in poultry productivity in the cold period and higher costs of producers, the retail price may rise to about UAH 80 per dozen.
If we are talking about packaging in branded containers, buyers will have to pay up to UAH 100 for a dozen, which already brings eggs closer to the category of delicacies for many families.
The increase will also affect the meat and dairy basket: a liter of milk may approach the mark of UAH 80, while pork – up to approximately UAH 300 per kilogram.
Beef and entrecote, according to forecasts, will cost up to UAH 360 per kilogram, while lard will remain in the range of UAH 200–350, with premium cuts already exceeding UAH 400. At the same time, vegetables will become more expensive, because the cheap autumn harvest without modern storage is gradually disappearing from the market.
Bread and medicine in December, according to economists, will increase in price approximately at the level of official inflation – approximately 1.5%. In general, the food basket may become more expensive by 14–15% per year, which exceeds the general inflation rate and primarily affects low-income Ukrainians.
We will remind you that fat dairy products in Ukraine will continue to become cheaper, and according to Olena Zhupinas, Deputy Director General of the Association of Milk Producers, the trend will continue until the first half of 2026.
The NBU also predicts a slowdown in price growth in Ukraine next year.
