In August 2025, 4.6 thousand tons of fresh and frozen pork were imported to Ukraine, which is 48% more than in July. In total, in January – August, imports amounted to 14.9 thousand tons – 7.8 times more than in the same period last year.
This is the highest rate since 2022, reports the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club (UCAB).
The most purchases took place in July and August – 7.7 thousand tons. In the first two weeks of September, another 3.2 thousand tons were additionally imported. Experts predict that by the end of the year, the volume of deliveries will reach at least 25 thousand tons. The main suppliers are Denmark, Poland and the Netherlands.
UKAB Analyst Maxim Hopko explains that the main reason for active imports was the reduction of pigs in winter to 4.5 million heads, which caused a deficiency in the domestic market and rising prices.
In September, the purchase prices for live weight of bacon pigs amounted to 98-100 UAH/kg depending on the region. From the beginning of the year, they increased by 34%, and in annual dimension – by 60%.
Instead, pork prices are declining in EU countries, making their markets attractive for purchases. Import has become a key source of raw materials, but reducing its volume is possible only with the growth of domestic livestock.
According to the State Statistics Committee, as of September 1, there were 4.8 million pigs in Ukraine – 5% less than last year, but 7% more than at the beginning of the year. Despite an increase in 330 thousand heads, the supply on the market remains limited.
