The Polish Foundation “Freedom and Democracy” completes the formation of a mission. In total, the exhumation will be carried out by about 20 people, including several Ukrainians.
The team will include anthropologists, archaeologists, forensic experts and geneticists, and the “nucleus” of the mission will be experts from Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, headed by Professor Andrzej Ossovsky.
According to RMF FM, representatives of the Polish National Memory Institute of National Memory will join the team. Their role in the mission is still determined.
To make exhumation of the bodies of victims of the Volyn tragedy will begin in the second half of April in the village of Puzhniki of Ternopil region. According to the plan, exhumation work will last about a month.
Anthropologists will have to establish the age, gender and causes of death, in particular whether it was a violent death. DNA samples for comparative study will also be collected.
The cost of works is estimated at several hundred thousand zlotys. It is noted that about 80 Poles were killed in the village of the Pujniki.
We will remind, Ukraine has allowed Poland to search and exhumation of victims of the Volyn tragedy. In turn, Poland will support Ukraine’s aspirations in the EU.
Before that, Polish Defense Minister Vladislav Kosynia-Kkysh stated that the official Warsaw should not approve of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union in the future until the issue of the Volyn tragedy in 1943 was resolved.
