Poland is consulting with NATO on strengthening the Alliance’s presence in its airspace. Until this issue is resolved, Warsaw will not hand over MiG-29 fighters to Kyiv.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the briefing of the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhi.
“These consultations are ongoing. This is an issue on which we and the Polish side share a common point of view. Indeed, we call for an increased presence of NATO in the Polish skies, which would stimulate the release of resources that can be transferred to Ukraine,” Tykhi said.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not disclose the details, but noted that the issue of the transfer of Polish MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine is on the agenda.
“We want to hope that we have a positive movement in it. But it is too early to talk about specifics, we will wait for these specifics,” he added.
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda stated that his country could consider transferring its MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. However, NATO should redeploy additional aircraft to Polish air bases.
And the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland Pawel Wronski reported that Poland will transfer the rest of its MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine after receiving 32 F-35 aircraft.
