Poland allocated 2.5 million zlotys (or about 637,000 US dollars) to support mine action projects in Ukraine.
This is reported by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland signed a corresponding agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine.
With the allocated funds, it is planned to implement innovative measures for demining territories, in particular, to increase the potential with the involvement of service dogs-sappers. 16 specially trained dogs are already working in the Mykolayiv region under the leadership of eight cynologists. About half of the funding will go to testing UAVs and remote sensing in cooperation with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
“Ukraine is considered one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world. With this contribution, Poland confirms its unwavering commitment to the security and progress of Ukraine, as well as its solidarity with Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale war started by the Russian aggressor,” emphasized Piotr Lukasiewicz, Charge d’Affaires of the Polish Embassy in Ukraine.
In 2024, 10 new demining battalions were created in Ukraine, which work on clearing de-occupied territories of explosive objects.
Also, in Ukraine, the first 11 tenders for the purchase of agricultural land demining services have already been held. One of them has already ended with the signing of the contract.
