In Ukraine, the requirements for the work of “Points of Invincibility” are being updated – now each of them must have energy-independent internet. Access to the network will be provided through xPON fiber optic technology or Starlink satellite terminals. This was reported in the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
The government has decided to strengthen the work of the “Points of Invincibility”, making them completely independent of power outages in the area of communication. From now on, the Internet must work in every such point, which does not disappear with the light.
This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. The department explained that access to the network in “Points of Invincibility” should be maintained even during long blackouts, because for many people this is the only opportunity to contact loved ones, use government services or receive important information from emergency services. “The Internet in “Points of Invincibility” is not about comfort, but about basic security. People should be able to inform relatives, call for help or receive official messages even when the city is out of power,” the Ministry of Statistics emphasized.
The ministry noted that the difficult situation with electricity supply in Odesa clearly showed the problem: during mass blackouts, the state often found out about the lack of Internet at points from complaints on social networks, and not through official control channels. This made it difficult to respond quickly and created additional risks for people.
In order to avoid such situations, the state sets a single standard: each “Point of Unbreakability” must be connected either to the fiber-optic Internet using xPON technology or to Starlink satellite communication. xPON can work without electricity for up to 72 hours with backup power, and Starlink will be used in places where there is no cable infrastructure.
Particular attention was paid to monitoring the network. Each item will be assigned a digital address that will allow you to automatically monitor the state of the Internet connection in real time. This will enable the relevant services to respond to failures before people arrive at the point and encounter a problem.
“Our task is to ensure that communication in “Points of Unbreakability” is stable and predictable. In the event of a loss of the Internet, technical services should learn about it immediately, and not after postings on social networks,” the Ministry of Digitization emphasized.
