An electronic petition has appeared on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine demanding the creation of a temporary investigative commission to check the activities of People’s Deputy Maryana Bezugla. The author of the appeal, Yevhen Oleksenko, believes that her public statements and posts could harm national security in wartime conditions.
The text states that the deputy’s systemic public activity in 2022–2024 was directed against the Armed Forces of Ukraine and has signs of a planned information campaign that could be beneficial to the Russian aggressor.
The authors of the petition emphasize that Bezugla repeatedly disseminated information, which was later officially denied by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Air Force.
Which statements were officially denied
A number of specific examples are given in the appeal:
- On March 18, 2025, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces refuted Maryana Bezuglai’s statement about the alleged “advancement of Russian troops deep into Sumy region”;
- On October 28, 2024, the General Staff officially denied her words about the transfer of military medics from hospitals to infantry units;
- On November 3, 2024, Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat denied the deputy’s statement about the decrease in the number of downed “Shahed” drones;
- On February 12, 2025, Yuriy Ignat also denied Bezuglai’s post about the “crater from an unshot rocket” in the Obolon district of Kyiv.
The petition notes that such statements undermine trust in the Armed Forces, sow panic and demoralize society.
The reaction of the Air Force
Yuriy Ignat, head of the communications department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, publicly supported the idea of checking the deputy’s activities. According to him, her statements have a destabilizing effect.
“In fact, this is a subversive activity. Her posts and statements lead to the discrediting of the decisions of the top military leadership, destabilization of the situation in the army and the country in general, and can have fatal consequences,” Ignat said.
He also drew attention to the fact that Maryana Bezugla was a member of the parliamentary committee on national security, defense and intelligence for a long time and had access to classified information. “Her round-the-clock activity in social networks makes us wonder who exactly creates these messages and works under the brand “Maryan Bezugla”. This really needs to be sorted out,” the Air Force representative added.
The Russian footprint in the information space
Separately, the petition emphasizes that Bezugla’s posts are actively quoted and distributed by Russian and pro-Russian Telegram channels. They are used as arguments to discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian authorities. The former head of the Luhansk OVA, Georgy Tuka, also drew attention to this earlier.
“Russian information resources present Bezugla’s statements as a ‘voice of truth from Kyiv’ and use them to create a narrative about internal division in Ukraine,” he noted.
What do the petitioners demand?
In the petition, citizens ask the Verkhovna Rada to create a temporary investigative commission and check:
- possible obstruction of the activities of the Armed Forces;
- alleged cooperation with the aggressor country or foreign special services;
- the circle of persons who could participate in the dissemination of these messages;
- sources of funding and coordination of information activities.
Currently, the petition is at the stage of collecting signatures.
