In Ukraine, the most difficult heating season is predicted for the entire time of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, as the aggressor country systematically attacks energy-generating facilities. Experts in the field of housing and communal services have named the types of houses that will freeze first during possible blackouts, and how long various structures will last without heating.
This is reported by “Telegraph” with reference to experts Oleg Popenka and Krystyna Nenno.
The five-story panel buildings, known as “Khrushchevki”, turned out to be the least resistant to turning off the heating. They freeze in a flash.
Housing expert Oleg Popenko explains: “The first to freeze are the so-called “Khrushchevki” or “panel houses”. It literally freezes for hours there. hours – and goodbye. Come on some hours, it already depends on the wind.” After this time, the temperature will drop so critically that it will be necessary to drain the water from the heating system so that the pipes do not crack.
Another expert, Kristina Nenno, claims that tall panel houses can freeze even faster: “Sixteen-story buildings will be the first to go.” According to her, high panels of the BPS series lose heat the fastest, then nine-story panels freeze, and after them – five-story “Khrushchevs”.
Brick houses and modern new buildings demonstrate the best indicators of cold resistance:
- “Stalinki”: These houses of the Stalin era are the absolute champions of cold resistance. The thickness of their walls reaches – . They work as a heat accumulator and can last without heating – even at minus temperature – .
- New buildings: Modern houses insulated with mineral wool and equipped with double-glazed windows are the absolute leaders. They can keep the temperature – inside at minus on the street during – . Engineering networks in them are also better protected from freezing.
- “Czech panels”: Modernized panel houses with a different heat supply system and a higher-quality project (connecting panels according to the “lock” principle) can last up to – .
- Brick houses: Brick “Khrushchevka” have better indicators compared to panel ones and can withstand without heating – with a slight frost. White brick houses, built later, keep heat even better – until – .
We will remind, in Ukraine, the phased connection of heat supply has started in 13 regions.
As of November 3, 70–80% of Ukrainian boiler houses are already connected or are being connected to heat. In the social sphere, the level of providing heat is about 70%, and in terms of the housing stock, approximately 50-55% of houses already receive heating.
