Volodymyr Orlov, a former official of the Dnipropetrovsk OVA, stated the political undertones of the criminal case against him, calling it an order of the current head of the region Serhii Lysak. According to Orlov, “two real agents” appear in the indictment materials – the provocateur Oleksiy Gonchar and the head of OVA Lysak himself. Orlov claims that the head of the region used his connections in anti-corruption bodies to remove him from the political arena.
The defense pays special attention to the main witness of NABU — Oleksiy Honchar. It turned out that he is a citizen of the Russian Federation with a criminal record, who at the same time acts as an applicant in many cases of the bureau. Moreover, representatives of the company, in whose interests Gonchar allegedly acted, declared under oath in court that they had never seen this man and did not authorize him to conduct any negotiations regarding the lease of the land.
Orlov also accused the investigation of manipulation of evidence. According to him, the records of secret investigative actions, where he refuses the provocateur three times to sign dubious documents, were declassified only five months after the case began. Linguistic examination by the Bacarius Institute also confirmed the absence of any requests for undue advantage in Orlov’s conversations, which casts doubt on the prosecution’s evidence base.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine reported the detention of lawyer Serhiy Stetsyuk, the lawyer of businessman Ihor Kolomoiskyi. Stetsyuk is suspected of extorting $100,000 from representatives of capital construction companies for allegedly “solving” tax issues.
