President Volodymyr Zelenskyy again criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his attempts at “mediation”. The head of state emphasized that he has no leverage over the aggressor state.
Zelenskyi said this at a meeting of the All-Ukrainian Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
Ukraine is a strong country and has shown it on the battlefield.
“Does anyone else in Europe have such experience now? No one. Does Orban have such an army? No. How will he put pressure on Putin? With a joke, a smile? Let him leave it to himself,” he added.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine needs direct relations with the US without intermediaries.
“Prime Minister Orbán, who wants, you know, “somehow there, somewhere there…” will not work. I will not let him and people like him,” the president added.
It is about the prime minister of Hungary, and not about the Hungarian people who support Ukraine, Zelenskyy added.
It will be recalled that tense relations between Kyiv and Budapest intensified after Viktor Orban called Volodymyr Putin last week.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that he offered Ukraine and the Russian Federation to make a Christmas truce and exchange prisoners, but President Zelensky “clearly refused and ruled it out.”
At the same time, Trump’s future national security adviser Mike Waltz said that he would be happy to see at least a temporary cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, similar to the “Christmas truce” proposed by Viktor Orban.
