“I can tell you with confidence that one of the conditions of the future truce will be the holding of elections in Ukraine and the reset of the government in Ukraine. Only a lazy person doesn’t talk about this in Washington,” Yeliseev noted.

The diplomat clarified that first a truce should be announced, and then elections should be held:

“Elections should be held in accordance with OSCE standards. And the second: everyone absolutely understands that elections cannot be held during wartime. That is why the elections should take place after the end of, let’s say, the hot phase, after the suspension of hostilities.”

However, he adds that partners in the West are additionally worried today by the fact that politicians, in particular the Ukrainian authorities, are already preparing for elections, harming military interests.

“Unfortunately, today the authorities are already preparing for the fact that the elections are inevitable, paying more attention to the political struggle inside Ukraine than to the struggle with the enemy on the battlefield. This is precisely what our American partners emphasize in our contacts. And this is not very good, because today the key thing is to strengthen our positions on the battlefield, in order for them to be stronger at the negotiating table,” Eliseev summarized.

Trump’s plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine — what is known

On January 20, Trump said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was “destroying Russia by not making a deal” and threatened that the aggressor country will be in big trouble” if it doesn’t happen.

The Wall Street Journal reported on January 22 that Trump instructed the special envoy for Russia and Ukraine Keith Kellogg to end the war in 100 days.

On Wednesday, January 22, the US president wrote that he will be forced to introduce high tariffs and impose sanctions on Russian goods if the aggressor country does not stop the war.

“With all of this in mind, I want to do Russia, whose economy is collapsing, and President Putin a very big favor. Make a deal now and end this senseless war! It will only get worse! If we don’t make a ‘deal’, and in the near future, I will have no choice but to impose high tariffs, tariffs and sanctions on everything Russia sells to the United States and other involved countries,” he wrote.

On January 23, Trump announced that he would ask Saudi Arabia and the OPEC countries to lower the price of oil. This, according to him, will lead to the “immediate” end of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

On January 24, The Wall Street Journal reported that Putin’s entourage considers Trump’s threats empty and believes that Russia is capable of fighting for at least another year.
