In Kyiv, the dismantling of workshop No. 5 of the First Kyiv Machine-Building Plant (formerly “Bolshevik”) has begun. This building is considered the cradle of the enterprise, from which the industrial history of the district began more than 140 years ago. It is known that the “Free Ukraine” armored train was once built at the Greter and Kryvanek plant.

This was reported by the monument guard Dmytro Perov.

The history of the plant on the former outskirts of Kyiv began in 1882. The Czech Yosyp Kryvanek and the Swiss Yakiv Greter founded the “Kyiv Cast Iron and Mechanical Plant” here.

Initially, this factory produced steam engines – later equipment for the sugar industry. Before the beginning of the First World War, the production of weapons was established here. In particular, the armored train “Free Ukraine” was built at the Greter and Kryvanek plant.

By 1915, the plant had become one of the largest enterprises in the Russian Empire. In 1922, the factory was nationalized by the Soviet authorities. From that time until 2018, it bears the name “Bolshevik”.

The demolition of workshop No. 5 is connected with the construction of a new transport interchange near the Shulyavska metro station. The concept, developed in 2017, involves the complete dismantling of the structure for the construction of a flyover.

Engineer Viktor Petruk proposed a junction project that allowed preserving the historic workshop and was cheaper to implement, but the city authorities rejected it, the activist noted.

In 2023, it was planned to spend UAH 91 million on dismantling, but the bidding was canceled due to violation of antimonopoly legislation. This year, the cost of works has already increased to UAH 121 million.

“What the Luftwaffe and Russian missiles failed to do is now happening at the initiative of the city authorities. One of the largest and oldest defense factories in Kyiv is being demolished for the sake of building another intersection,” the activist notes.

We will remind that the dismantling of the historic Weaving Workshop in Podil has begun in Kyiv.

As a reminder, Kyiv is launching seven mini CHP plants to protect energy stability.

A network of seven new thermal power plants is also being built in Kyiv.
