The spokesman of the National Association of Lawyers of Ukraine, Oleksiy Shevchuk, said that he passed the competitive selection at the Council of Prosecutors of Ukraine and was selected and recommended for the position of a member of the competitive commission, which will select the deputy head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).
He stated this in a public address, commenting on the wave of informational attacks and criticism, which, according to him, began after the announcement of the results of the competition.
Shevchuk confirmed that he previously represented Ilya Kyva as a lawyer during the period when he was the head of the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and was responsible for combating drug trafficking. According to the lawyer, it was at that time that Kiva, on his conviction, entered into a conflict with groups of activists who were associated with illegal drug trafficking.
Shevchuk also stated that similar informational attacks against him had taken place before — in particular, during his nomination to the Supreme Council of Justice under the presidential quota. According to him, complaints were filed against him at the time, which were later dismissed by the court as containing false information and damaging his reputation.
Separately, the lawyer commented on his military service. He reported that on March 7 he was mobilized and is serving as a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Shevchuk said that he participates in the processes related to the provision of the army and has awards from military units. Among other things, he noted that he personally participated in preventing the theft of first-aid kits intended for the military by officials of the Lviv City Council.
Commenting on possible abuses related to the activities of charitable foundations, Shevchuk stated that if his name or the names of foundations are used for illegal actions, it will have procedural consequences. According to him, relevant evidence regarding possible abuses has already been provided to law enforcement agencies.
He also emphasized that he had not committed any criminal offenses and publicly stated this during an interview at the Council of Prosecutors of Ukraine.
Separately, Shevchuk announced his intention to bring to justice persons who, according to him, spread false information and manipulate facts. He noted that relevant lawsuits have already been filed, and appeals to the Commission on Journalistic Ethics are also possible.
