October 9 (October 22 in the old style) Orthodox believers honor the memory of the Apostle Jacob Alfeyev. It is known that he lived in the 1st century and was the brother of the apostle and evangelist Matthew, belonged to 12 disciples of Christ, and the Lord Himself called in the Apostles of the saint.
Jacob preached the Christian faith in different countries – Judea, Greece, Edes, Gazi and Southern Palestine. He died for a sermon – he was crucified on the cross on the border of Egypt and Palestine.

The day people were called Jacob Studen, because the holiday symbolizes the onset of cold. The workpiece continues for the winter, you can go into the forest on mushrooms – honey, white mushrooms, whey.
A special place on this day is porridge – a symbol of abundance and health. According to the custom, the porridge from the new harvest is treated by relatives, neighbors, and the one who taste will be healthy and happy all year. For one of the signs of the day, if you go to visit, it is necessary to bring with you at least a small gift or treat, because this gesture promises to the giver abundance, and the owners of the house – good health.
The Church of this day, as always, calls for quarrels, image, envy, rude words and condemnation, one cannot refuse those who ask for help.
According to people’s beliefs, Jacob Studeny is not recommended to start new things, and one of the main prohibitions of the day is related to hospitality – you can not refuse to sit at the table if you were invited. In the old days, it was believed that the guest who refused to treat leaves the owners without well -being.
It is considered a bad sign on this day.
