On the night of February 7, Russia delivered a powerful blow to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Due to damage to substations and high-voltage lines, nuclear power plants were forced to reduce generation to avoid a large-scale accident. In the country, emergency power outages were introduced in most regions. This is reported by “Ukrenergo“.
Russian attacks this time became the largest since the beginning of the year. Drones and missiles hit 750 kV and 330 kV main lines and key substations. Due to this, nuclear power plants have been forced to reduce their generation capacity, and balancing of the energy system is carried out with the help of electricity imports and restrictions on consumption.
“The enemy made a massive strike with drones and missiles on substations and overhead lines. As a result, nuclear power plants were forced to reduce their generation capacity,” Ukrenergo reports. Due to damage to the main networks, NEC “Ukrenergo” was forced to increase the volume of outages. Most of Ukraine’s regions remained without power while energy workers work to stabilize the system.
Experts emphasize that such strikes not only create a threat of accidents, but also complicate the planning of energy supply in the country. In the conditions of continuous terror, energy companies work in an intensified mode to avoid large-scale problems for the population and critical infrastructure.
