As Dmytro Petlin, a representative of the Donetsk regional military administration, reported during an online briefing on January 7, 2026, a dangerous situation persists in 11 settlements of the region. The largest concentration of minors is recorded in Druzhkivska hromada, where 248 children remain despite the threat of hostilities. Despite the difficult conditions, over the last week, rescuers and the police managed to take 39 more children to safer areas together with their legal representatives.
In total, 19,423 children were removed from the territory of Donetsk region since the beginning of forced evacuation measures. The authorities emphasize that evacuation is critically necessary due to constant shelling of civilian infrastructure by the Russian Federation, which deliberately targets residential areas. Unlike the occupiers who carry out the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to the territory of Russia, Ukraine provides evacuated families with free housing, social benefits and psychological assistance within the controlled territories. The coordination headquarters continues to work on convincing parents who remain in the front-line areas of the need to leave immediately for the sake of the safety of the younger generation.
Previously, mandatory evacuation of children and their parents from 19 settlements was introduced in the Donetsk region.
Prior to this, the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine (Ministry of Development) announced the beginning of forced evacuation of children with their parents from dangerous areas of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine reported that mandatory evacuation of children together with their parents or legal representatives has been agreed upon from a number of settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
In Kharkiv region announced compulsory evacuation of families with children from the village of Odnorobivka.
