In the Kharkiv region, large-scale construction of underground schools is underway, which should ensure the safe education of children in conditions of constant military threat. By the end of the year, more than 20 such institutions are planned to be commissioned in the region.
This was announced by the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleg Synegubov during a press conference. According to him, projects are implemented at the expense of the state budget with the support of international partners.
According to the head of OVA, 36 underground schools are being built at the expense of the state budget. Another two schools are financed by international partners from Lithuania. Five facilities are implemented with the support of the American businessman Howard Buffett’s foundation and provide for the creation of kitchen factories to provide food.
More than 20 state facilities are planned to be commissioned by the end of this year. At the same time, the construction of four schools was suspended due to contractors’ failure to fulfill their obligations.
“We initiated the termination of contracts with contractors who did not cope with the scope and tasks,” Oleg Sinegubov said. From January next year, the regional authorities plan to announce new tenders for the completion of problematic facilities. As for other schools, the completion of their construction is delayed due to limited funding.
At the same time, according to the head of OVA, agreements have already been reached with the Ministry of Education and Science regarding the continuation of funding. Most of the facilities are expected to be completed next spring.
