Law enforcement officers conducted a new series of searches as part of special operation Matador, exposing Ukrainian members of an international group that specialized in stealing luxury cars in EU countries.

As reported in the Prosecutor General’s Office, investigators of the Main Investigative Department of the National Police together with operatives of the Department of Strategic Investigations conducted searches in Kyiv, Kyiv, Lviv, Vinnytsia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

The Ukrainian branch of the criminal network provided logistics and the selection of executors. Members of the group looked for people with permission to travel abroad, issued fake documents, bank cards and provided money for trips.

After that, the recruited persons were sent to Europe, where their documents were used to draw up rental contracts for luxury cars in rental companies, with no intention of returning them. Stolen cars were transported to specially equipped warehouses, engine numbers, documents were changed and transported to countries in the Middle East and Asia, where they were sold as new.

After returning to Ukraine, the performers received a monetary reward.

During the searches, the police seized documents, phones, computers and other evidence confirming the suspects’ participation in the criminal scheme. Among the stolen cars are Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi E-tron and other premium models.

Earlier in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a swindler deceived an elderly woman and took possession of her savings, persuading her to take them to the church for “consecration”.

Also, in Kyiv, a pseudo-postman, under the pretext of exchanging money for new bills, “exchanged” 260,000 hryvnias of a pensioner for a piece of paper.
