The mayor of the city of Voznesensk, Yevgeny Velichko, was involved in a fatal road accident in the Kirovohrad region. As a result of the accident, one driver died, two more people were injured. The official was detained and reported on suspicion, the prosecutor’s office of the Kirovohrad region reports.
The accident happened on January 28 in the territory of Golovaniv district. Velichko was on a business trip, there was no one in his car except him. It is reported in advance that the weather conditions were unfavorable.
According to the prosecutor’s office of the Kirovohrad region, there were three people in the second car – a Renault Megane – at the time of the accident. The driver died on the spot, and a man and a woman were injured and are in hospital. Rescuers of the State Emergency Service had to unblock them from the cabin with special tools.
Yevgenia Velichka was informed of the suspicion under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – “Violation of traffic safety rules that caused the death of the victim or caused serious bodily injury.” The official did not need hospitalization.
The Voznesensk City Council issued an official statement: “Evhenii Velichko was involved in a tragic traffic accident. The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by authorized bodies.”
