The Odesa region has been gripped by a large-scale energy crisis caused by abnormal icing and intensified by repeated strikes by the Russian Federation on infrastructure. As of the evening of January 27, 2026, DTEK energy workers managed to restore power to 101,000 families, but the situation remains critical.

This is reported by DTEK.

Due to intense precipitation at sub-zero temperatures, power lines were covered with a thick layer of ice, which led to massive wire breaks and pylons falling in 301 settlements.

The most difficult situation is observed in the northern regions of Odesa, where about 62,000 families remain without electricity. Repair crews are forced to work in extremely difficult conditions: due to solid ice on the roads, special equipment often cannot reach the accident sites, so specialists cover significant distances on foot with the necessary equipment. An additional challenge was the enemy’s night attack on one of the DTEK energy facilities in the region where colossal destruction was recorded, which further complicated the system stabilization process.

The bad weather affected not only the energy supply, but also the transport connections of the region. Due to the extreme icing of the roads, restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles have been introduced, in particular, traffic has been completely blocked on sections of the M-13 and H-24 roads. In addition, abnormal weather conditions caused serious train delays: flights from Odesa to Lviv and Uzhhorod deviated from the schedule by 5 to 8 hours.

In the regional center and part of the Odesa district, there are currently emergency shutdowns, as the state of the networks does not allow for stable schedules. The authorities urge residents to be as careful as possible on the streets, to use unbreakable points to recharge gadgets and, if possible, to refrain from traveling in their own transport until the weather conditions improve.

As a reminder, emergency and hourly blackouts continue in Ukraine on January 27.

On the morning of January 27, the Vinnytsia region was covered by heavy icing, which led to large-scale accidents on power grids.
