Mass attack on Christmas: Russia fired 12 missiles at Kharkiv energy facilities

Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported in Telegram that the occupiers fired 12 rockets at boiler houses, CHP plants and power plants. The Russian Federation also attacked energy facilities in other regions.

As a result of the attack on Kharkiv, a large part of the city was left without heating, four victims are known. Private residential buildings were also damaged due to the Shahed attack. NEC Ukrenergo introduced special schedules for turning off the lights in Kharkiv.

Terekhov said that the electric transport in the city is now running in normal mode, and communal services are restarting the heating system.

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that from 6 to 6:30 in the morning, the terrorist country massively attacked Kharkiv and its suburbs, at least ten hits were recorded. In Kharkiv, Saltivskyi, Kyivskyi, Industrialnyi and Nemyshlyanskyi districts were hit, residential buildings, civil and critical infrastructure were damaged. It is known about six wounded civilians, among them five men and a woman.

Previously, the occupiers fired S-400 rockets at Saltivsky district, and Kh-35 rockets at Nemyshlyansky district. The exact type of missiles is being established.

Around 6:50 a.m., the Russians struck a civilian enterprise in the village of Slobozhanske, Chuguyiv district, with a kamikaze drone. Also, at around 8:30 a.m., an attack UAV hit a residential sector in the Osnovyansk district of Kharkiv, a fire broke out in a residential building, and no one was injured.

A criminal case was opened on the facts of war crimes (h 1 Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In addition to the massive attack on Kharkiv, explosions were reported in Kremenchuk, Poltava, Dnipro, Samara (former Novomoskovsk) of Dnipropetrovsk region, in Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, Svitlovodsk and Kirovohrad region, in Burshtyn of Ivano-Frankivsk region.

The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that one of the missiles flew from the airspace of Moldova in the direction of Chernivtsi. Monitoring channels claimed that the missile flew about 140 kilometers through the territories of Moldova and Romania. The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, confirmed that the missile violated the country’s airspace. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense of Romania said that they did not record air targets.

The Ukrenergo company introduced emergency power cuts due to a missile and drone attack. As the head of the Ministry of Energy, Herman Galushchenko, said, the Russian occupiers again massively attacked the Ukrainian energy industry. DTEK reported that the company’s equipment was seriously damaged as a result of Russian strikes on thermal power plants. A 51-year-old energy worker died at one of the TPPs.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine with more than 70 missiles, including ballistic missiles, and more than a hundred attack drones. Air defense forces managed to shoot down more than 50 missiles and a significant number of drones.
