In Lviv, they will say goodbye to Oleksiy Lazarev, a Belarusian who died defending Ukraine. He left Belarus because of his beliefs and joined the ranks of defenders from the first days of the full-scale war. Oleksiy did not fight for the country in his passport, but for freedom and the values he believed in.
Oleksiy Lazarev was born in Minsk, but Lviv became his real home. Due to his convictions, he was forced to leave Belarus and later connected his life with Ukraine.
When the full-scale invasion of Russia began, Alexei did not hesitate to defend the country. He defended Kyiv in the most difficult first months of the war, fought in the south and east of Ukraine, served in the Kastus Kalynovsky regiment, and later in the 225th separate assault battalion.
Those who knew him say: he did not fight for awards or status. He fought for freedom – Ukrainian and Belarusian – and for the right of people to live without fear. “He did not fight for a passport, but for the values he sincerely believed in,” the brothers say. After his death, Oleksiy was survived by his wife, parents and brother. Lviv says goodbye to a soldier who deliberately chose Ukraine and gave his life for it.
