Lithuania is urgently handing over 90 generators with a total value of over 2 million euros to Ukraine. They must ensure the operation of heat, electricity and critical infrastructure in conditions of Russian shocks and frosts. The decision was made after the appeal of the Ukrainian side. About new energy support on Thursday announced Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Kästutis Budris.
Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Kästutis Budris announced the new package of energy aid on Thursday. According to him, it is about generators that will be used for the operation of heat supply systems, power generation and critical infrastructure facilities.
The government clarified that the total value of the transferred equipment exceeds 2 million euros. The decision was made in a short period of time after an urgent appeal from the Ukrainian authorities with a request for additional support.
Prime Minister of Lithuania Inga Ruginene emphasized that assistance to Ukraine remains a principle for her country. “The decision was made promptly, in response to the urgent appeal of the Ukrainian authorities and taking into account the current situation in the energy sector. Lithuania supports and will support Ukraine at a difficult moment for the country,” she said.
The Lithuanian government is also paying attention to the difficult humanitarian situation, which is exacerbated by frost and constant attacks on energy infrastructure. Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas emphasized that generators are now not a matter of comfort, but of people’s safety. “Due to the fact that the air temperature in Kyiv has been dropping to minus values for some time, especially at night, thousands of residents face a real threat to their health and lives. That is why electricity generators are becoming a vital means of humanitarian aid,” the minister noted.
The Lithuanian government adds that the transferred equipment will make it possible to respond more quickly to accidents, maintain the operation of heat networks and ensure a stable power supply where it is critically needed.
Lithuania remains one of Ukraine’s most consistent partners, providing military, financial and humanitarian aid since the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The new package with generators became another step of support at a time when energy security directly affects the lives of millions of Ukrainians.
