Orlov notes that he was surprised by NABU’s work with the agent, who, according to him, changed his name three times, is wanted on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and has two indictments against him for fraud. Regarding the legal process, he points to numerous violations, in particular, the excessive amount of the bail (over UAH 22 million) and attempts by NABU to “collect evidence” already after the case has been brought to court, which is prohibited by the Criminal Procedure Code. Despite the pressure, Orlov is calm and ready to go to the ECtHR, since the witnesses in the court, including Gonchar himself, actually denied the charges. He expressed hope that the court will evaluate the evidence objectively, not politically, and this case will become an example of the inadmissibility of abuse of power under the guise of fighting corruption, as similar provocations can be repeated with other officials.
