In October 2024, the volume of purchases of currency by the population of Ukraine exceeded the volume of its sale by 1.39 billion dollars, which is a record figure since November 2012.
According to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), this growth is caused by a significant demand for cash currency. Compared to September, the volume of purchases of cash currency increased by $319 million, reaching $2.59 billion, while its sale increased by only $42.2 million to $1.31 billion.
The purchase of non-cash currency also increased, reaching 420.2 million dollars, which is 26.3 million more than in September. In general, in the first 10 months of 2024, the net purchase of currency by the population amounted to 9.63 billion dollars, which is significantly higher than the figure of 3.14 billion dollars for the same period in 2023.
Among legal entities, there is also an increase in the purchase of currency: bank customers purchased $6.77 billion in October, the largest figure since December 2023. The sale of currency increased even more – up to 5.38 billion dollars.
On the interbank market, the volume of operations increased for the second month in a row and reached $6.21 billion, which is the highest figure during the full-scale invasion of Russia.
We will remind, in the period from January to March 2024, more than 57.6 thousand FOPs were opened through “Diya”. This is 41.6% more than in the same period last year.
At the same time, in the first four months of 2024, almost 31 thousand FOPs ceased their activities. More than 23% of newly created FOPs last year closed in 2024.
