Ukrainian Serhii Kuznetsov, who is suspected of involvement in the explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines, served in the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine until the end of November 2023.

In response to the request of the human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, the Ministry of Defense confirmed that Kuznetsov served in the military unit A0987 (SSO Command) from August 10, 2022 to November 28, 2023 in the rank of captain. At the end of November 2023, Kuznetsov was released to the reserve by order of the commander of the military unit and sent for military registration to the Obolonsky district territorial center of recruitment and social support in Kyiv.
The interlocutor said that earlier the Ministry of Defense did not provide this information in response to the requests of Kuznetsov’s lawyer and family. The Ukrainian’s relatives also repeatedly appealed to the then head of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny to confirm the status of the Ukrainian as a prisoner of war, but they did not receive an official response.
Italy has extradited 49-year-old Ukrainian Serhiy Kuznetsov to Germany, who is suspected of organizing the 2022 blow-ups of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. Kuznetsov was flown to Germany by helicopter after more than three months of pre-trial detention.
On November 28, the Federal Court of Germany arrested Serhiy Kuznetsov, a citizen of Ukraine. Berlin suspects him of involvement in blowing up Russian gas pipelines.
