Memory Day in Ukraine
Every year on July 29, the day of honoring the fallen soldiers of the Special Operations Forces (SCO) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is held in Ukraine. This day was established by a separate order of the Master Commander-General of Major Alexander Trepak as a symbol of deep respect for the heroism and sacrifice of Ukrainian special forces who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the state.
It was on this day in 2014 that a group of special purpose of the third regiment named after Prince Svyatoslav the Brave was killed during the combat mission in the area of Snizhne of Donetsk region. The warriors tried to save the Ukrainian pilots, knocked down by the enemy, but were ambushed and took an unequal battle.

Church Holidays on July 29, 2025
Today, on July 29, the new church calendar honors St. Martyr Danylo Mliivsky (Cherkasy). We tell you what the saint became famous, what traditions and folk signs are related to this day, as well as what is the church holiday in Ukraine in the old style today. Danilo lived in the middle of the XVIII century and was an elder (titar) of the Assumption Church in the village of Mliiv (now Horodyshche district of Cherkasy region). Right -bank Ukraine was at that time under the Commonwealth, so the Ukrainians were actively planted by Catholicism, and they were persecuted.
Two churches operated in Mliyev – Trinity and Assumption, where the Gdyshytsky brothers served priests. When they went into Catholicism, the peasants chose new Orthodox priests. However, the patrons refused to concede their place – conflict. Fearing for church property, the peasants secretly collected it and deposited Danylo Kushnir.
The Gdishitsky brothers, having learned about it, spread the rumors that Danilo had stolen everything, and conveyed the governor. The elder was arrested and put in prison in the Smilyansky Castle. He could be released under one condition – he would go into Catholics. When Danilo refused, he was executed under Vilshaya: the execution was made indicative, bending the inhabitants of the surrounding area. The saint was secretly buried in the Pereyaslav Holy Ascension Monastery, and later the relics were buried in Mliyev.
