The High Council of Justice dismissed the judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal Vasyl Oliynyk in connection with the submission of the resignation application. The employee of Themis, who is famous for a number of resonant decisions, in particular in favor of the Surkis family, will now receive payments from the state budget for life.
About it reports “Investigation.Info”.
A solution in favor of Surkis
In February 2020, Judge Oliynyk, together with his colleagues – Oksana Zhelepo and Svetlana Kulikova, supported the Pechersk Court’s decision on compulsory penalty from Privatbank more than UAH 7 billion. The money was to be paid in favor of companies related to brothers Igor and Grigory Surkis. The essence of the case is deposit agreements concluded by offshore structures with the Cyprus branch of the bank before its nationalization. It was then that the court found that the termination of obligations under these agreements was unfounded.
Free Land and Declaration
Oliynyk also appears in the list of judges who in 2012 received land from the state in Kyiv region. According to the investigation, by 2016 the site remained owned, after which it was sold or rewritten.
In the declaration for 2024, the judge stated:
-
Three land plots (1191, 2000 and 6300 square meters) in the Kiev region;
-
Residential building of 170 square meters. m;
-
Car: Skoda Superb 2006 and 2007, Kia Sorento 2013;
-
Income: UAH 3.2 million – wages, UAH 259 thousand – pension;
-
Cash: $ 35 thousand, another 56.5 thousand UAH – in a bank account.
Pension – over 100 thousand hryvnias
The dismissal of judges in Ukraine is accompanied by lifelong maintenance at the state expense. As of January 2025, such judges are 3 908. The average monthly payment is 107 040 UAH. The total expenses of the Pension Fund for this in 2024 reached more than UAH 5 billion. Last year alone, the High Council of Justice resigned another 238 judges.
Thus, Vasyl Oliynyk, whose career in the judicial system lasted since 1996, will now receive a generous pension at the expense of taxpayers, despite loud decisions and property contradictions in his biography.
