The Japanese Agency for International Cooperation (JICA) will consider the possibility of financing Ukrainian programs in energy and infrastructure. They used to care for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
This was stated by the head of the Ukrainian office of Jica Hideki Matsunaga at the V Ukrainian-Japanese Forum.
Matsunaga emphasized that USAID and JICA approaches are different, so it will not be easy for the Japanese agency to pick up programs in Ukraine that previously implemented the US agency, in particular in the legal field, as well as directly finance civil society.
“But we would like to see what gaps have occurred in the energy sector and try as much as possible. Of course, we have some budget restrictions, but we would like to make more … Of course, we have to think seriously about the energy industry and infrastructure, and we will consider these industries, ”added the head of the Ukrainian office Jica.
Meanwhile, the US Supreme Court rejected US President Donald Trump’s request for $ 2 billion for USAID. The US authorities are obliged to pay this money to foreign humanitarian organizations for their work already done.
Recall that Congress members from the Democratic Party opposed the initiative of the Donald Trump administration to reorganize the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and its accession to the State Department. They believe that this step may threaten the financing of international assistance programs, including billions of infusion into Ukraine’s development.
The group of former USAID Agency Managers (USAID) opposed the attempts by Donald Trump to eliminate the Office. In the statement, they called on Congress to promptly protect the authorized role of the agency.
