Defense Express editor-in-chief Oleg Katkov told in an interview with Radio NV how Ukraine fights Russian reconnaissance drones as effectively as possible, which, in particular, significantly reduces the enemy’s use of Lancets.
— Forbes writes that Russians use Lancets 75% less. Various reasons are given in this article, including sanctions. But the main reason is that ZALA flying repeaters and gunners are very actively shot down by Ukrainian-made FPV drones, anti-aircraft drones. And Lancets without ZALA (without gunners) lose their main advantage. How do you rate such publications, is it supported by your sources?
— I will not undertake to confirm or deny. Here we can simply mention that since August, Ukraine began to use anti-aircraft FPV drones quite actively, constantly increasing the pace. And only recently, Serhiy Sternenko and his volunteer community published what only their drones could do (and it must be understood that this project — Sky Resource — is one of many, there are other suppliers of FPV drones that are designed to destroy Russian UAVs) shot down more than 400 Russian drones such as ZALA, Supercam, Orlan. The Lancets were also mistaken, the fact that they could not accurately identify was mistaken.
“Eyes” of the enemy. How are the most dangerous Russian UAVs — Orion, Lancet and others — arranged and what threat they pose even to the rear
This is 400 downed reconnaissance drones in 3.5 months. A huge, astronomical number, and that’s just one community. In reality, I don’t know how many – maybe under a thousand Russian spies [збили].
And one must understand that this is a huge, truly astronomical success, which is directly related to what will happen and is happening on earth. Because when it comes to a Russian reconnaissance drone like the Orlan, ZALA, it is a reconnaissance-strike complex. The enemy attacks with Lancets targets that are at a depth of 20 kilometers, possibly due to translators, 40 kilometers from the front line. In order for the Lancet to hit something, the operator needs to know where to fly, what to look for and exactly where. That’s what they use it for [розвіддрони]. The scout flies, finds the target, transmits the coordinates, the operator of the same Lancet rises. If there target is “fatter”, then they can use other means they have.
— Iskanders use.
— We saw many situations in the summer of this year, when the enemy simply bombarded with Iskanders… There were a lot of videos that were not very positive for us, when a drone took a picture of an Iskander flying into some object. And this is precisely the reconnaissance-strike circuit, when information about the target is transmitted to the means of defeat online. Destroying scout UAVs means gouging out the enemy’s eyes, it’s destroying their reconnaissance-strike circuit, and it’s a huge advantage over them because they have more UAVs.
An “accomplice” to the attack on the airfield in Myrhorod. What is the Russian UAV Orlan, how dangerous it is and how it ends up in the rear
It must be remembered that Rashka simply has more resources for everything. And yes, it is necessary to find effective, cheap, mass solutions. And an anti-aircraft FPV drone has become a reality in the fight against Russian UAVs… I don’t think this word is a game changer, but in this case…
