The Italian government listed the first EUR25 million tranche for the restoration of Ukraine’s energy system as part of a joint initiative with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The total cost of the project is EUR200 million.
This was reported at the Embassy of Italy in Ukraine.
The funds should be obtained by the state -owned company Ukrhydroenergo. They are directed to the implementation of urgent measures to restore access to energy supply, strengthen the power grids and provide vital services in the most affected regions.
“This first funding is a specific signal of powerful support for Italy’s energy sector of Ukraine, which has undergone serious trials through the war,” Karlo Formosis said the extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Ukraine.
He stressed that “the restoration of the country begins with light, heat, basic services that bring together communities and make them stable.”
The contribution became part of the wider Italian assistance package for the amount of EUR125 million aimed at energy security and rebuilding of Ukraine in cooperation with Ukrainian institutions and international partners.
On April 14, the United Kingdom sent £ 752 million ($ 990 million) to Ukraine within the Credit Mechanism of the Seven Group with the use of frozen assets of Russia.
It should be reminded that according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Maria Malmer Stenergard, Europe should go from words to actions in the use of Russian frozen assets in favor of Ukraine.
