Israeli Defense Minister Claims Iranian Security Chief Killed in Airstrike

The Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has claimed that Ali Larijani, the head of Iran’s security service, was killed during an airstrike in Tehran. However, he did not provide any evidence to substantiate this assertion.

In an apparent attempt to refute the claim, Iranian sources released what they allege is a handwritten note from Larijani dated March 17. This note was shared on Larijani’s social media account.

The news regarding Larijani surfaced shortly after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the killing of Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Basij paramilitary forces, during the same series of airstrikes on March 16.

“Yesterday, the IDF eliminated Gholamreza Soleimani, who had been the commander of the Basij unit for the past six years,” the IDF stated on March 17.

The Iranian side has neither confirmed nor denied this information.

If Larijani’s death is confirmed, it would mark the highest-ranking Iranian official killed since the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following the onset of Israeli and U.S. strikes against Iran.

On February 28, the United States initiated a joint military operation with Israel against Iran. This operation resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and targeted various military and nuclear facilities within the country.

In retaliation, Iran has conducted strikes against American bases and infrastructure belonging to Washington’s allies in the Gulf region.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has claimed the death of Iranian security chief Ali Larijani in an airstrike, a statement that remains unverified. This follows the IDF's announcement of the killing of another Iranian military leader, Gholamreza Soleimani, amid escalating military actions between the U.S., Israel, and Iran.
