In Zaporizhzhia, the city department of veteran policy invited veterans, their families and families of fallen soldiers to attend the play “The Merry Widow” at the Volodymyr Magar Music and Drama Theater.
This is stated in plots “Public”.
Maryna Avotyn, the wife of the fallen soldier, believes that invitations to performances with similar titles devalue the pain of women who have lost their loved ones.
“Personally, I can say that it would not just be unpleasant for me. I would be very angry,” Maryna Avotyn said.
The operetta “The Merry Widow” will be shown at the Volodymyr Magar Music and Drama Theater from 2021. This is one of the 52 productions that are in the institution’s repertoire. The operetta was created at the beginning of the 20th century and its plot has no relation to the realities of today.
“Currently, the name, in connection with such a situation, may have affected someone. But this performance, there, in general, another time. There is a humorous subtext, it shows love, when they find out that the widow is rich, they want to win her because they will receive an inheritance. The plot is built exactly on such a line,” noted director and artistic director of the theater Nataliya Vlasova.
Military personnel, veterans, as well as wives and children of fallen military personnel have the right to visit the Magara Theater for free during martial law.
“This world operetta is not prohibited by legislation, it is not prohibited by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. Therefore, I believe that we have the right to show it and give joy to our viewers. They chose what triggered them, probably in our time. And I understand those people, because this is how everything is now, how we walk on the edge. But this cheerful widow has nothing to do with what is happening in our country today,” Nataliya Vlasova added.
