Dogs were poisoned on the territory of the Pirogov hospital in Vinnytsia. The incident was reported by animal rights activists of the charity organization UAnimals, who filed a complaint with the police.

The law enforcement officers opened criminal proceedings on the fact of cruelty to animals.

As reported by UAnimals, they were approached by volunteer Olga Tanaskova, who took care of local animals, back in September. According to her, at least four dogs died, but only two bodies were found, and two more were rescued.

The women who took care of the animals were recognized as victims. At their request, the bodies of the dead dogs were autopsied. Forensic veterinary examination confirmed not only the fact of poisoning, but also that the animals were brutally beaten.

“We call on the police to conduct a full, comprehensive and impartial investigation, collect all evidence and identify those responsible,” UAnimals said.

Animal rights activists emphasize that in such cases it is rarely possible to find and punish the culprits, so they call for maximum publicity.

Criminal proceedings were opened under Part 1 of Art. 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (cruelty to animals). The culprits face arrest for up to six months or restriction of liberty for up to three years.

Volunteer Olga Tanaskova also reported that she contacted the head of the Vinnytsia District Prosecutor’s Office. According to her, the prosecutor promised to personally take control of the case and ensure an objective investigation.
