Doctors of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine performed the first heart retransplantation in Ukraine. For the first time, the patient underwent a heart transplant abroad seven years ago.

“30-year-old Peter underwent the first heart retransplantation in Ukraine. This is his third heart! Seven years ago, the first transplant was carried out in Minsk, but over time the heart began to fail,” says the post of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Health, over time, after the first transplant, the new heart began to work worse. So when the situation became critical, Peter was assigned the first emergency status in the Unified State Transplantation Information System (EDIST). That is, it meant that with the appearance of a suitable donor, Petro would be the first in line for a transplant.
The donor of a new heart for Peter was a woman from Bila Tserkva who died of a stroke. Her family decided on posthumous donation after being declared brain dead.
“Petra’s heart was transplanted, today he was transferred from the intensive care unit to a regular ward. His condition corresponds to the level of surgical intervention,” reports the Ministry of Health.
Despite the fact that heart retransplantation took place in Ukraine for the first time, Ukrainian transplant specialists have experience in repeated transplants of other organs — kidneys and liver.
So, for example, in 2022, the First Medical Association of Lviv performed a successful retransplantation of a kidney to a 14-year-old boy, and in 2023, in the National Scientific Center of Surgery and Transplantology named after O. AT. Shalimov, a 57-year-old patient was re-transplanted with a liver.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health reported how many Ukrainians ignored the recommendation to complete the course of vaccination against COVID-19. It turned out that there are more than 12 million such people.
We will remind that since the beginning of the epidemic season (from October 2023) and as of January 12, 122,081 cases of COVID-19 have already been recorded. Among them there were 595 deaths. In particular, four children under the age of 17 died with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19.
