The Mukachevo City District Court issued a sentence in the case of ill -treatment of a child that ended in her death. Two cohabitants, while intoxicated, were chained by a young boy with a chain to the pillar, and later caused his ignition.
This is stated in the court decision.
The incident happened on May 13, 2024 in the village of Serne in Berehiv. At about 3:00 pm, a small boy returned home from school. He was met by a drunken mother and her cohabitant. The woman began to blame her son of stealing money or phone, and then – together with her husband, decided to “teach” the baby, tying her with a metal chain by her neck to the pillar in the yard. According to the mother, it had to become an “educational event”.
After a while, she poured fluid on the boy’s chest – probably gasoline. Her cohabitant, who at that time played a lighter, or threw a burning cigarette into the child, or set fire to. The testimony in this part of the case diverge. It is also not established whether the child was still on the chain during the ignition.
After the boy, the boy was extinguished with water and dressed, but did not cause help. The child was asked if they needed an “fast” and, without receiving a clear answer, decided to do without doctors. Only when the grandmother returned home in the evening and saw the burned hands of the baby, did she turn to the neighbors for help.
Despite the effort to save the boy, he died in resuscitation in a few days – he had 80% of the body surface.
In court, the accused partially acknowledged the guilt – only that they did not cause medical care. At the same time, witnesses, including the secretary of the village council, reported that the child had long been afraid of the mother and once confessed to it.
The court found the woman and her cohabitant guilty under Part 2 of Art. 121 (deliberate grievous bodily harm that caused the death of the victim) and Part 1 of Art. 135 (leaving in danger) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Both punishment – 9 years in prison.
Earlier, we wrote that in Chernihiv, on May 20, the Novozavodsky District Court decided to take away her 14-year-old daughter Valentina Valentina Valentina. However, the woman was not deprived of parental rights.
