Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the National Police, reported the suspicion to a law enforcement officer from the Rivne region, who was involved in a fatal road accident while under the influence of alcohol.
“The accident occurred on January 2, 2026 at around 9:40 p.m. in the village of Orvyanytsia, Rivne region. A law enforcement officer driving his own car collided with an electric bicycle moving in the same direction. “According to preliminary information, the driver significantly exceeded the speed limit, and the specified section of the road was well lit,” the SBI reports.
As a result of the accident, a 40-year-old woman riding a bicycle died at the scene. The driver did not call an ambulance and left the scene.
The next day, law enforcement officers detained a man in a state of detoxification from alcohol. He refused to pass the drager test, currently an analysis is scheduled to determine the exact amount of alcohol in the blood.
The figure is suspected of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, which caused the victim’s death, as well as leaving the victim in danger (Part 3 of Article 286-1, Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years. Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure and removal from office is being resolved.
