A court in the Kherson region sentenced to life imprisonment a 20-year-old soldier of the Russian Federation, who performed the duties of an escort in a torture chamber created by the invaders and was involved in a number of war crimes.
This is reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
According to the police, during his stay in occupied Kherson, a serviceman of the 50th separate operational brigade of the Russian National Guard served as an escort in the torture chamber set up in the building of the captured temporary detention center of the regional police headquarters.
During the investigation, it was established that he illegally detained civilians, subjected them to inhumane treatment, limited access to food, water, and hygiene products, kept them in unsanitary conditions, and subjected them to psychological and physical violence during escorts for interrogations.
In particular, on the night of June 17-18, 2022, he oversaw the torture of a 42-year-old man from Kherson, who was beaten with numerous blows to the head and body, resulting in life-threatening injuries.
The actions of the military of the Russian Federation were qualified on the grounds of complicity in the brutal treatment of the civilian population, combined with intentional murder committed by a group of persons based on a prior conspiracy, as well as violations of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 438, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code).
After collecting sufficient evidence, the regional prosecutor’s office sent the indictment to the court. The trial has now been completed: the Russian soldier was found guilty and sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment.
It will be recalled that the SBU detained a traitor who was preparing to blow up the car of a National Police official in Dnipro.
Also, the SBU and the National Police exposed 20 organizers of mobilization evasion schemes throughout Ukraine.
