In Ternopil, law enforcement officers detained six servicemen suspected of kidnapping, torture and extortion. Another suspect has been declared wanted.
As the prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Western region, Andrii Bagrii, said in a comment to the publication “20 Minutes”, on October 17, the court will choose precautionary measures for the suspects. Five have already been ordered to be arrested without bail, and the hearing regarding the sixth is ongoing.
The lawyer asked to release the suspects on the bail of the commanders, but the court refused – the officers did not participate in the meeting, even in the format of a video conference.
According to “20 Minutes”, one of the suspects is 22 years old – he has been serving since he was 18 and joined the service as a volunteer. He is accused of extortion, robbery and illegal deprivation of liberty. Another is 23 years old and is accused of kidnapping people and illegally taking possession of a vehicle.
The police of the Ternopil region detained a group of servicemen who are suspected of committing violent and property crimes. According to the police, the military illegally deprived people of their freedom, used physical violence against them, tortured them, demanded money and confiscated property. The perpetrators took the victims out of the city, where they were abused, in particular, people who were seriously injured in the war and were undergoing rehabilitation.
