Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) detained the former head of one of the regional TCCs and social support in Donetsk region, who, for bribes, helped servicemen escape from military units in Sumy region.
This is reported by the SBI.
The major, who had previously been criminally prosecuted for helping evaders flee abroad, was transferred to his command after being exposed, but continued his illegal activities already in Sumy Oblast.
The official guaranteed the two servicemen that he would personally pick them up at the unit and take them to any location in Ukraine. The suspect demanded a total of 12,000 US dollars from the two men for his services.
The major instructed the military in detail how to leave the deployment point inconspicuously. He promised to use his official documents to pass the checkpoints without obstacles.
The military took advantage of the advice and left a part around 3 o’clock in the morning. Together with the TCC major, a former prosecutor from Donetsk region, who currently works as a lawyer, was in the car. The group passed through the roadblocks unhindered as the assailant displayed official documents. The detention took place on the border of Sumy and Poltava regions at a gas station during the transfer of funds.
The TCC official was informed of suspicion of aiding and abetting desertion (part 5 of article 27, part 4 of article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides up to 12 years of imprisonment. The figure was remanded in custody without bail. The investigation is currently establishing the role of the former prosecutor.
During the year, Ukrainian border guards and law enforcement officers exposed 420 criminal groups that were engaged in illegal transportation of men across the border.
Man drove through on a bicycle 750 kilometers from Mykolaiv to Bukovyna, and he was caught a few hundred meters from the Ukrainian-Romanian border.
