In the Poltava region in one of the psychiatric institutions found a gross violation of human rights – 29 people were kept there against their own will.
This was announced by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets after the monitoring visit to the “Regional Psychiatric Assistance Institution” of the Poltava Regional Council.
During the inspection, they found that in a premises where compulsory medical measures were previously used, patients were actually deprived of freedom.
According to Lubin, people complained that they had seized all the documents and mobile phones, depriving them of contact with the outside world. In addition, patients stated that they were forced to perform forced free work, which was a direct violation of their rights.
Such actions of the staff of the institution have caused serious concern for human rights defenders.
After receiving information about these violations, the representative of the commissioner in the Poltava region Vladislav Nosenko immediately called investigators, representatives of the regional prosecutor’s office and the management of a psychiatric institution.
Law enforcement agencies have already opened criminal proceedings on illegal imprisonment and forced labor. Investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the case and bringing the perpetrators to account are currently underway.
We will remind, Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets informed that all Ukrainian servicemen needed medical care after the liberation from the Russian captivity.
We also reported that the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets and the Netherlands delegation, headed by the Minister of Justice and Security of the country, David Van Wil, discussed the return of Ukrainian citizens from Russian captivity.
