In Odesa, the head of the Bereziv Central City Hospital and the deputy of the city council, Gevorg Bznuni, was sent to the pre-trial detention center for dealing with conscripts.
This is reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the decision of the Dobroslav District Court.
According to the investigation, Bznuni demanded $10,000 for “resolving the issue” with the Military Medical Commission (MMC) – he promised to influence its decision and assist in declaring the man unfit for service.
The investigators note that the money was transferred in parts: first 50 thousand hryvnias, later – more than 1.6 thousand dollars. During the searches of the office and home, significant amounts of cash in various currencies were seized, the total amount exceeding UAH 5 million.
The court partially satisfied the request of the prosecutor’s office and chose a preventive measure: 59 days of detention with an alternative bail of almost 2 million hryvnias. Bznuni himself does not admit guilt.
According to the case file, the suspect has held the position of general director of the hospital since March 25, 2021, and at the same time works as a neurologist at the same medical facility.
Earlier, the State Bureau of Investigation exposed a corruption scheme in the Phytosanitary Safety Department of the Main Department of the State Production and Consumer Service in Kirovohrad region, where money was systematically extorted from exporters of agricultural products.
