In Odesa, during a mobilization raid, a man in a military uniform was recorded on video threatening a passerby who tried to check the documents of representatives of the TCC. Local residents recognized Magomed Aydamirov (also known as “Maga”) in the aggressive military, a person with an extensive “track record” in the criminal world of Odessa. The fact that the man acted together with the police and other military personnel raised a single and main question in society: why is a person connected to an organized criminal group not in prison, but in the ranks of the TCC?
Magomed Aydamirov himself is known for the fact that, according to the investigation, in 2015-2017 he headed a group that specialized in kidnapping people, extorting money, and illegally storing weapons. Among the loudest episodes is the kidnapping of an Odessa businessman, who was kept on a chain in the basement for a month and a half, demanding a ransom of $250,000. Although Aydamirov was detained in 2018 on suspicion, already in 2020, the court in Odessa released him under house arrest, and the case materials, journalists note, remarkably disappeared from the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.
Journalists of UA.News sent an official request to the Prosecutor General’s Office for an explanation. The Primorsky RTCC and SP could not confirm or deny the information about Aidamirov’s service, referring to the large number of personnel. The public outcry surrounding the video is exacerbated by the fact that Aydamirov’s group was particularly dangerous, since, according to the investigation, it included both former fighters of volunteer battalions and people from Chechnya, which made it well armed and trained.
