The Central District Court of Mykolaiv chose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of 60,560 hryvnias for a 45-year-old man who is suspected of making a known false report about the preparation of an explosion in the Kyiv subway.
The Central District Court of Mykolaiv reported this on Facebook.
According to the case file, while in a state of alcohol intoxication, he called the “102” line and declared that he was a suicide terrorist of the FSB and planned to blow up the subway in Kyiv with the help of 50 kilograms of explosives. The investigation established that the suspect is a conscript who voluntarily left the military unit at the time of the incident.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect the next day after a call at his place of residence in Mykolaiv. During the court session, the man tried to justify his act by saying that he allegedly needed psychological support and that is why he resorted to threats of terrorist attacks. Despite these explanations, the detainee’s actions are qualified under Part 2 of Art. 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for imprisonment for a term of 4 to 8 years for false reports about a threat to the safety of citizens, committed during martial law or regarding critical infrastructure facilities.
The situation with mass reports of landmines remains tense: on January 30, the police processed more than 2,000 such calls in various regions of the country. Law enforcement authorities emphasize that each such call diverts significant resources of emergency services, which are necessary to eliminate the consequences of real shelling from the Russian side. For the crime committed, the suspect faces a long prison sentence, and investigators are checking his possible connections with the special services of the Russian Federation, despite his statement about seeking help.
Also in Kyiv, it was reported that the court of appeals had been mined.
