The tragic incident happened today, December 30, around 10:30 a.m. on the Shchyrets — Glynna-Navaria railway line.
According to preliminary data from the police of the Lviv region, a passenger electric train ran over a 47-year-old local woman who was trying to cross the tracks through a closed crossing. The woman died from her injuries at the scene before the arrival of medics.
Investigators established that the railroad crossing was closed to pedestrians and traffic while the train was moving. Despite the operation of sound and light signaling, as well as the lowered barrier, the woman neglected safety measures and stepped onto the rails. The train driver could not avoid the collision due to the considerable weight and speed of the train.
At the scene of the accident, an investigative-operational group and specialized services of the police of the Lviv region are currently working to find out in detail all the circumstances of the tragedy. Law enforcement officers are collecting evidence and eyewitness testimony, after which the event will be given a final legal qualification. The police once again urges citizens to be as careful as possible near railway facilities and to strictly follow the rules for crossing the tracks.
