The Higher Anti-Corruption Court (HCC) sentenced two employees of the Kyiv Tax Inspectorate and a lawyer to prison for accepting a bribe in the amount of $36,000. They demanded funds from the businessman for the return of funds and valuables seized during the search.

Serhii Novachuk, the head of the investigative department of the DPI in the Shevchenkiv district of Kyiv, received 10 years of imprisonment, and investigator Oleksandr Stoyanov – 9 years. In addition, all their property was confiscated and they were prohibited from working in law enforcement agencies for three years after their release.
Lawyer Serhii Tarasyuk was sentenced to 9 years with confiscation of property and a ban on practicing law for three years.
According to the investigation, the suspects demanded $36,000 and received part of the bribe ($10,000) for the return of funds seized from the businessman during the search, namely UAH 974,000, $109,000 and other valuables.
The court applied a preventive measure in the form of 24-hour house arrest to all the accused. The court’s decision can be appealed within 30 days.
Journalist Yuriy Butusov noted that after the NABU exposure, Novachuk was promoted and continued to work in the tax authorities until the end of 2021, after which he resigned.
The official’s property, including apartments, offices, land plots and cars, is registered to his relatives. In addition, Stoyanov remained in his position in the main department of the SFS of Kyiv until the end of 2021.
