In Kyiv, the court found a 57-year-old native of Luhansk region guilty of deliberately setting fire to three cars and sentenced him to five years in prison.
As the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reported, the man received orders to destroy cars that could belong to servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He searched for cars in the Shevchenkiv district of the capital, doused them with a flammable substance and set them on fire. As a result of his actions, three cars were destroyed, and more than 650 thousand hryvnias were caused to the owners.
Despite the fact that during the trial the accused pleaded guilty and repented, the prosecutor insisted on a real punishment due to the martial law. The court agreed with the prosecution’s arguments and sentenced the man to five years in prison.
Palia will remain in custody until the verdict becomes final.
We will remind that in December of last year, the police detained a young man from Bereziv region (Odesa region) on suspicion of setting fire to the premises of the village council: the hall in the administration building was completely burnt down.
Security Service of Ukraine and National Police detained six more agents of the special services of Russia, who committed arson in the Kyiv and Mykolaiv regions.
